The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club is bringing youth soccer players together from all clubs and organizations across the region to form a U13 boys all-star team to represent Upstate South Carolina and the Triumph at the National USL Academy Cup event on Memorial Day weekend, May 2020 in Tampa, Florida. Greenville Triumph SC is participating in the inaugural USL Academy Cup. The GTSC Academy Cup program will consist of a 10 to 12 week experience where athletes will get a glimpse into the professional soccer world. Players will receive coaching from Triumph staff, access to top quality soccer facilities, video analysis sessions, explosive performance training and the opportunity to represent the Upstate and GTSC at an elite, national event!
Players younger than 12 years old may tryout, but no athletes trying out may have a birth year more recent than 2009. For a player to be selected to play up with an older team, the Technical Staff & respective coach of that team must determine that the player will be an impact player whose skill level fits with that of the first team.
Tryout identification numbers will be provided at the registration area. Players must wear a white t-shirt, shin guards, proper socks, shoes, and shorts. If they are trying out for a goalkeeper position, they will need a proper jersey and gloves. It is also encouraged to bring a water bottle (water will be provided).
The coaching staff evaluates players in four categories: Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Psychological.
Out of the tryout participants, a pool of approximately 30 players will be selected. Of those 30, 18 players will be selected to the travel squad for the USL Academy National Event taking place Memorial Day weekend, 2020.
The cost of travel, use of facilities, and uniforms will be fully covered by the club and supporting partners. Registration fees, meals at the National event, and incidentals will not be covered by the club.
Training will begin in late February/early March and will take place at either Bob Jones University (the official Training Facility for the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club) or Legacy Early College in Greenville. Training schedules will be released at a later date.
Training sessions, games, and all team events are designed to maximize individual player development and team growth, as well as safety from a fitness standpoint, and are therefore highly recommended. The Triumph will expect that the predominance of training sessions and Academy Cup team events are attended by players selected to the squad. However, we understand that other family and life commitments may conflict with training. We ask that athletes communicate availability on a timely basis through the clubs preferred process. This process will be explained at a later date.
