Dallas Jaye named USL League One Goalkeeper of the Year

By Greenville Triumph, 10/28/19, 1:30PM EDT

USL League One announced on Monday that Greenville Triumph SC goalkeeper Dallas Jaye had been voted the 2019 League One Goalkeeper of the Year. The Guam international added to his prior League One Golden Glove award after a regular season in which he posted 13 shutouts while helping lead Triumph SC to a place in the League One Final.

Jaye received 51 percent of the vote to claim the award, with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s Alex Mangels finishing second on 27 percent and the Richmond Kickers’ Akira Fitzgerald finishing third with 22 percent.

The 2019 USL League One Awards were voted on by team management. Voting was conducted following the conclusion of the 2019 League One regular season.

Jaye’s fourth professional season marked his first as a starter having previously served as a back-up in the USL Championship at both FC Cincinnati (2016-17) and Phoenix Rising FC (2018). An All-Big East First Team selection in his senior season at Xavier University, and a former standout in USL League Two for FC Tucson, Jaye became a centerpiece for the best defense in League One as he posted a 0.78 goals-against average in 27 appearances across the regular season.

"I attribute all the success of this season to my club," said Jaye. "Coach Harkes took a chance on me and gave me all the confidence in the world to go out and perform at a high level this season. Alex Blackburn and our goalkeeper group pushed the level every day, being critical with the smallest details that ultimately make the big differences, which showed throughout the year. Ryan McKie, the strength and conditioning coach, pushed me off the field to keep my mind and body going in the right direction during this grueling season. Rick Wright, our assistant coach, offered countless insights that helped make the game easier to read and understand."

"My teammates, I can’t say enough about them. They were absolute giants on the field the entire season and I am very grateful to have shared the successes of this year with them, including this award. "

In addition to competing for Triumph SC, Jaye continued his role as the starter for the Guam National Team, and earlier this year helped the country qualify for the second stage of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying in Asia. The Matao will continue their campaign on November 19 when they face the Maldives.
