GTSC prepares to defend its spot atop the leaderboards as the club travels to face Forward Madison FC and fans, for the first time in the 2020 season. The last match played between the two clubs saw an electric sold out crowd at the Flamingo's home stadium and a 1-0 Triumph victory.
Forward Madison is hosting all home games at Hart Park in Wauwatosa, WI this season and preparing for 25-30% capacity equaling around 1,400 fans. It will be the first match the Triumph players have played in front of fans since the team's preseason exhibition matches back in March.
Forward Madison opened its 2020 season with a 2-1 loss to defending League One champions North Texas SC. The Flamingos struggled to maintain possession and garner much offensive productivity against NTSC despite tallying one goal from one of its newest players, Wojciech Wojcik.
The new Polish striker has reigned in heavy excitement from fans and experts as a Madison's new big man. The 6'4" center forward will look to play with his back to goal often while causing chaos in and around the box on set pieces and services from Don Smart and Paulo Jr. That is, if the services are accurate, which was a major point of struggle for The Mingos in last weekend's defeat.
Leading the Way: Two wins in two matches. More impressively: five goals in two matches. Offensive efficiency was the biggest unknown for Greenville coming into the shortened 2020 season but is quickly transitioning from a point of doubt to a major strength as Jake Keegan and company are dismantling defenders with dynamic runs and dangerous services.
Move, Man: Due to some new strengths that Greenville acquired in the offseason, the club has leaned towards a more direct style of play throughout the first two matches, with several of the front four interchanging positions continuously. Greenville's movement off the ball, and tendency to step and win throughout the midfield, is what will continue to create opportunities for the Triumph. As a smaller team watch for attackers like Jake Keegan, Alex Morrell and Carlos Gomez to hang out on the backside shoulder of many defenders anticipating a transitional moment.
Undefeated, Maybe Unsettled: Greenville and Madison met three times in the 2019 season, where the teams drew twice before Greenville upset Madison at their home field. With revenge on the brain paired with the intensity of Flamingo fans (despite being in limited capacity), there is sure to be an unsettling energy swirling around the Triumph players. If Greenville can't settle pace and energy of the game early, Madison may have the upper hand to strike first.
