Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph have signed midfielders Carlos Gomez and Christopher Bermudez, pending league and federation approval.
“I've been waiting for this chance all my life,” said Gomez. “Being a professional player has been my dream since I was a child. This club has given me a great chance to start my professional career, so I'll give everything I have to help this team to grow in every aspect.”
Gomez, from Algete, Spain, says that soccer has always been a passion of his. “It is the most famous sport in Spain and is a very important part of our lives. I’ve loved this sport since I was a child. I remember playing soccer all my life. It is a game that has forged my personality through the years.”
He attended Young Harris College in northeast Georgia, netting 32 goals and 16 assists across three seasons. Gomez earned multiple All-American, All-Conference and All-Academic team selections during his time at Young Harris University.
“Coming from nearby Young Harris College, I have been able to witness his domination in his games, and the way he manipulates the game with the ball at his feet,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “He has an excellent creative mindset and work ethic. Happy to bring him to Greenville Triumph.”
“Supporters can expect an ambitious player who will work hard every day to represent Greenville in the best way on and off the field,” said Gomez.
Christopher Bermudez joins the Triumph after standing out at this year’s community tryouts.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for me to play professionally in America for the first time and make a name for myself,” said Bermudez. “This being the inaugural season should give my teammates and me even more motivation to make history for the club and city.”
Originally from Union City, New Jersey, Bermudez played for the New York Red Bulls Academy from 2015-2017. During that time, he tallied 8 goals in 28 appearances. The midfielder most recently spent time with Mexican powerhouse Club Pachuca.
“My time at Club Pachuca helped me grow not just on the field but off the field as well,” said Bermudez. “Coming to Greenville now I will be a mature player and person with Liga MX experience.”
“I recognized Christopher at our tryouts from his days at NYRB Academy and Club Pachuca in Mexico,” said Coach Harkes. “I’m excited to create this platform for him to do well with our club and the Greenville community.”
Gomez and Bermudez join 10 other players on the inaugural season team.
