NEWS AND NOTES
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club will play the Kickers tomorrow night at home in a top-of-the-table matchup.
The league’s top club for much of the summer, Greenville has struggled with an unlikely opponent in their last two matches- the weather. After having a nearly 2-hour delay and 2+ goal losses for both of Greenville’s last two matches, a forecast of clear skies and mild temperatures is welcomed at Triumph Stadium. The home team will look to regain their form after a positive week of training and move back to the top spot on Saturday.
Richmond is coming into Saturday’s match riding a three-match win streak and a newly appointed first place standing. A win this Saturday could easily push Greenville atop Richmond, with only a two-point difference separating the number one and number two teams. Both teams should be geared up for a “six point opportunity” on Saturday in a match that could go a long way to determining playoff seeding before the two clubs meet in the last match of the regular season on October 15th.

Greenville Tops Chattanooga 1-0 in Road Match
A Labovitz goal, a saved penalty by Christensen earns Greenville three points
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club defeats the Chattanooga Red Wolves 1-0 for the second time this season following a first-ever goal from rookie, Jacob Labovitz and show-stopping save from goalkeeper Paul Christensen.
Greenville’s second consecutive road match began with high energy from both clubs. An exceedingly physical match, the first half was marred with fouls totaling 20 within the first 43 minutes of play from both sides. The ball travelled back and forth from each end line for the continuation of the first half. Neither team able to capitalize on their opportunities, sending them in the locker rooms scoreless, 0-0 at the half.
Greenville returned to the pitch determined to find the back of the net. However, a foul conceded by Greenville offered Chattanooga a chance to take the lead in the 69th minute with a penalty kick but Triumph goalkeeper, Paul Christensen, makes a heroic save to keep Greenville in the game. Just minutes later, rookie Jacob Labovitz scores his first professional goal, giving Greenville the 1-0 lead. Chattanooga retaliated by putting the pressure on Greenville, but the away side are able to hold them off with another save from Christensen to smother the Chattanooga attack. In the final minutes of extra time Greenville was able to find advantage on a counterattack. A final shot from winger, Allen Gavilanes, deflects off a Chattanooga defender, ending the match 1-0 for Greenville.
The Greenville Triumph return to Triumph Stadium Saturday, June 4th for a 7:00pm match against the Charlotte Independence. Tickets are on sale now.
