Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has announced midfielders Cameron Saul and Sami Guediri as the newest additions to the club’s roster ahead of the 2019 inaugural season, pending league and federation approval.
Both Saul and Guediri participated in the team’s first-ever community tryouts Nov. 17 and 18.
“Being a part of this inaugural team is a huge honor and a real dream come true. The club, itself, is one that I have followed since its announcement and being a part of it is special,” Saul said.
“To be selected from the tryouts is something that is surreal to me,” he said. “As with any tryout, the chances of being selected are slim. This one in particular had a lot of top talent in attendance, so to have stood out in that environment and to be signed as a result is a great feeling.”
Saul joins the team after completing his senior season at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. He spent the past two summers playing with Asheville City SC of the NPSL.
“I noticed Cameron right away on the first day of our open tryouts,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “I brought him back the next day to our invitational tryouts and knew he would be a good addition to our team.”
Guediri played for SIMA Aguilas in League Two of the United Soccer League, where he totaled 477 minutes over 13 games during the 2018 season.
Harkes and Guediri first met when Guediri was training with Derby County in England about five years ago. “When he showed up to our tryouts, I was impressed by the level of talent he brought, and I know he will be a great asset to our club,” Harkes said.
Guediri said that “joining the Triumph is a great honor, a challenge and an opportunity for me to play a pivotal role in helping the club win not only games but also the hearts of the fans.”
The two join Tyler Polak, Jake Keegan, Evan Lee and Paul Clowes on the inaugural season roster.
The Triumph’s first home game is set for April 6 at Legacy Early College. Season tickets are available by visiting https://www.greenvilletriumph.com/season-tickets.
