Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has signed Upstate native Cole Seiler as the newest member to the club’s roster ahead of the 2019 inaugural season, pending league and federation approval.
“There is true value in having a local, professional role model from The Upstate join the Greenville Triumph in our first year,” said Head Coach John Harkes.
Seiler grew up in Anderson, SC and was a four-year letter winner for Christ Church Episcopal High School. The two-time captain and NSCAA All-American was named team MVP his senior year. The upstate native also found success in club soccer, winning five youth state championships with CESA.
“The proximity to my home was a major contributing factor as to why I chose the Triumph,” said Seiler. “In addition to coming home, the announcement of John Harkes as head coach put things over the top.”
The defender attended Georgetown University where he started in 86 of his 87 games. While with the Hoyas, Seiler earned a second-team All-Conference selection and was named to the Academic team three times.
After his time at Georgetown, the defender was drafted 16th overall in the 2016 MLS Superdraft by the Vancouver Whitecaps. He played two games for the MLS club before heading to their USL team.
Seiler joins the Triumph after spending the 2018 season with the Sacramento Republic where he played a total of 910 minutes.
“Cole comes to us with MLS and USL experience,” said Harkes. “He can play in the midfield or as a central defender. We are happy to bring a professional with his experience to our club and keep him in the Upstate while playing for Greenville Triumph.”
According to Seiler, supporters can expect to see “an honest, hard-working team player who hopes to be a contributing member of not only a winning team but also display entertaining soccer to bring fans back for more action throughout the season.”
Seiler joins Tyler Polak, Jake Keegan, Evan Lee, Paul Clowes, Cameron Saul and Sami Guediri on the inaugural season roster.
The Triumph’s first home game is set for April 6 at Legacy Early College.
