Lansing, MI – The Greenville Triumph earn a point on the road after a 1-1 draw at Cooley Law School Stadium against Lansing Ignite.
A strong offensive push in the opening minutes of the match almost led to a Triumph goal after a header from Evan Lee in the 2nd minute went just above the crossbar. Things then leveled out in the first half and the teams went into halftime knotted at zero.
Lansing came back in the 2nd half with a few good looks early on but weren’t able to capitalize. After a substitution in the 67th minute, Travis Ward came on the pitch and quickly became the hero for Greenville after scoring his first Triumph goal only a minute later.
“It’s unbelievable feeling to help my team any way I can,” said Ward about scoring his first goal. “Hopefully it opens up the floodgates for more to come as we have a couple big challenges coming up the next few weeks.”
The Greenville lead was short-lived after a conversion off of a Lansing corner kick hit the back of the net in the 76th minute.
The Triumph head home and will quickly turn around to play the Charleston Battery of the USL Championship on Wednesday evening at Legacy Early College field for the 2nd round of the U.S. Open Cup. General Admission tickets are only $5 (plus fees), parking is free, and Season Ticket Members will have right of first refusal to purchase their seats.
