Greenville, SC – In front of a passionate home crowd, the Greenville Triumph (3-3-2) came out with a 1-0 victory over the Richmond Kickers (3-3-2).
Greenville came into the match looking to avenge their 1-0 lost to the Kickers back on April 20. The team started off the game strong with a good chance in the fourth minute from Jake Keegan, but Alex Rodriguez of the Kickers was able to keep it out of the back of the net.
The Triumph came back in the 32rd minute with another chance after Omar Mohamed made a huge shot on goal.
It wasn’t until the 42nd minute that a flick of the ball from Jake Keegan went over heads of the keeper and a defender that the Triumph finally broke the deadlock. Keegan’s 3rd goal of the season, was enough to eventually give the Triumph a 1-0 victory.
“I think we should have buried them maybe 3 or 4 to nothing,” said Keegan. “For tonight, it’s good to get the win and get back to winning ways, and we can build on that next weekend.”
Keegan wasn’t the only hero for tonight’s game. After making a massive save in the second half to keep it 1-0, Dallas Jaye earned his 3rd clean sheet of the season.
“At the end of the day, 3 points is 3 points,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “We look at the table, and we want to continuously put ourselves in good spots to make any chance to stay high in the table. So tonight was a good win.”
The Triumph are on the road next weekend as they travel to Tennessee to take on the Chattanooga Red Wolves.
