Greenville, SC – A strong second half attack helped the Greenville Triumph battle back to draw the Lansing Ignite 1-1 at Legacy Early College Field as the two clubs wrapped up their third and final regular season meeting. Greenville finished the series undefeated with a 1-0-2 record against Lansing.
The Triumph started the match with a number of early chances highlighted by a Cameron Saul goal in the 25th minute waived off for a narrow offsides by the club. Lansing notched their first goal minutes later, with Nick Moon heading the ball past a leaping Dallas Jaye.
The Triumph flipped the script after the break, with strong halftime adjustments including the substitution of Chris Bermudez in the 62nd minute. His impact was almost immediate, as he served in a precise corner kick in the 66th minute that was headed in deftly by defender Cole Seiler.
“I think the second half, Coach did well with picking up the players and getting them to concentrate on fighting back,” said Bermudez. “I think we came on strong in the second half, just unfortunate to not come away with the win tonight.”
The Triumph produced a number of late chances, failing to score but holding firm to notch their second consecutive draw, moving the club’s record to 3-4-4.
“I think what the League has shown overall is that a lot of teams are capable of beating a lot of teams,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “I was happy with a lot of the created chances, again. I mean we are unfortunate not to score more, as we’re putting ourselves in good spots.”
The Triumph embark on a three-match road trip beginning with a stop in Chattanooga on June 22. The club will return to Greenville Saturday, July 13th, to take on Orlando City B at 7:00pm at Legacy Early College Field. The Pregame Fan Fest begins at 5:00 pm, gates open at 6:00 pm and kickoff is at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
