Madison, WI – A new attendance record in Breese Stevens Field wasn’t enough for No. 3 Forward Madison as the Greenville Triumph steal three points on the road and make their stake for a playoff position.
The first forty minutes of action held at a steady pace with close chances and momentum swings for both sides until a transitional Triumph attack struck first by way of the team’s youngest player on the field, Christopher Bermudez.
Bermudez was on the receiving end of a quick dead-ball transition in the 42nd minute when left back Tyler Polak threw the ball in to oncoming midfielder, Aaron Walker. Walker switched the point of attack to right-flank player Bermudez who curled his first goal of the season into the left upper 90, an impossible shot to save.
Quickly into the second half, goal-scorer Bermudez was substituted off for defensive midfielder, Paul Clowes as the Triumph defense continued to be tested with dangerous corners and services throughout the second half. With 15 shots, Madison didn’t leave without a fight but the Triumph proved its defensive renown as the experienced back line, led by goalkeeper Dallas Jaye, came up with multiple game-saving plays to extend the Triumph’s unbeaten streak.
The Bermudez goal was enough for visiting Triumph SC as the win against FMFC pushed Greenville into playoff contention with a No. 3 slot in the USL League Standings (34 pts).
With Dallas Jaye’s clean sheet, fans can receive $3 off a Top Wash at FINS Car Wash on Sunday. Greenville will return to the pitch on September 7th at 7pm in City Stadium to face the Richmond Kickers. The match can be viewed on ESPN+.
