No. 3 Greenville Triumph SC rounds out its three-game road stretch with a trip to Virginia to face the Richmond Kickers. This is the third meeting between the two clubs and the first match of the series to be played in City Stadium.
What To Watch For:
On the Road Again (Pt. 3): It’s been an extensive few weeks of travel for the Triumph, playing three straight games on the road before returning to Greenville September 13th. The club started with a trip North of the border, picking up a point in Toronto. The stretch continued with a hard fought match vs. Forward Madison, where Greenville earned a massive three points to push them into a top-four spot in the league with 34 points and a chance at the postseason. The now No. 3 Triumph side is 4-3-4 on the road and 5-3-3 at home and hoping to find their 10th win of the season tomorrow night in Virginia’s capital.
Some old, Some New: Last week, Greenville saw some different faces introduced to the lineup with Omar Mohamed’s call-up to the Somalian National Team. This week, Triumph SC faces more challenges with Golden Glove leader Dallas Jaye also called away for national team duty. Add in Triumph midfielder Paul Clowes’s unavailability due to yellow card accumulation, a new GK signing (David Greczek), and recent signee JJ Donnelly fresh off his first appearance of the season, and we’re bound to see a few new faces pushing to make their mark on the inaugural 2019 season.
Goal Conversion: Goal-scoring has been sparse for Greenville so far this season with only 5 multi-scoring games on the books (and one ending in a loss). It’s not for lack of chances, as the team is near the top of the league with 281 total shots. Despite that, the ability to convert shots to goals and convert them consistently has proved challenging. With 21 goals total (a 9% goal conversion rate, 9th in the league) and an extremely tight playoff table, the Triumph will have to focus on building and finishing quality opportunities to hold their place as a top-place team in the league.
Bragging Rights: This Saturday’s match comes with bragging rights as the two teams have announced the first annual Bon Secours Cup. The new rivalry within the USL League One was birthed from a shared sponsorship with Bon Secours that will “underscore each club’s partnership and provide a vehicle to heightened community engagement and fan interaction” according to Triumph President, Chris Lewis.
