After three weeks on the road, Greenville Triumph SC returns home to face FC Tucson for Triumph Over Cancer Night presented by Bon Secours.
What To Watch For:
Home, Sweet Home: It’s been a long stretch for Triumph SC and its’ fans as the team has spent the last three matches on the visiting side. Greenville finally comes back home for the first match at Legacy Early College since a 0-0 draw against Madison on August 17th. The Triumph boasts a 5-3-3 home record and is on the hunt for revenge against a Tucson side that scored three goals and took three points back to Arizona last time they visited the Upstate.
Defensive Domination: Greenville’s defense has been a source of confidence and stability throughout most of the year with 12 clean sheets and only 15 goals allowed in 23 games. The league has taken notice, awarding goalkeeper Dallas Jaye Player of the Month honors for August. Jaye, who leads the league in the Golden Glove race, was absent for Greenville’s 1-0 loss at Richmond due to international call-ups. He returns to the squad this Friday to add yet another dimension to the Great Wall of Greenville that features speedy wing backs and disciplined center backs who understand each aspect of the attack against them. According to Jaye, Greenville’s defensive presence is a mentality that is owned from the strikers to the four guys right in front of him. With three of the 15 allowed goals coming from FC Tucson, that’s exactly what Greenville needs to secure three points and maintain their playoff position.
Stepping Up: Greenville announced Thursday the loss of two key players for the remainder of the 2019 season, Jake Keegan and Max Hemmings, due to injury. Keegan leads Greenville’s scoring column with nine goals and Hemmings has been a key piece at right back. “We’ll miss them during the final stretch, but it provides an opportunity for other players to step up,” said Coach John Harkes. Step up, they must, as Greenville is just four games away from ending the regular season. With a tight playoff table (#3 Greenville with 34 pts, teams #4-6 with 33 pts each), Triumph SC will have to rely on every player to continue their late-season momentum.
Triumph Over Cancer presented by Bon Secours: Friday’s match is a special one as Bon Secours and Greenville Triumph SC partner up to support families in the fight against cancer. The pregame will feature several special ceremonies including the launch of the Triumph Teammates Program where current cancer patients (aged 4-10) have the opportunity to meet the players, see the locker rooms and escort the starting 11 onto the pitch.
