After clinching a playoff spot Tuesday night in Tucson, Greenville returns to Legacy Early College Stadium to face Orlando City B for the club’s final regular-season home match.
What To Watch For:
Who’s Next? The Greenville attacking column has been spread out amongst the group since leading goal-scorer Jake Keegan was sidelined for the season a few weeks ago. Since August 27th, Carlos Gomez has scored four goals in two games and Cameron Saul has scored three goals in two games. Greenville as a squad has scored ten goals in its last three matches alone during a 10-match stretch that’s featured five multi-goal performances. Other notable attacking bits from the streak: Christopher Bermudez getting his second game-winner this year, Paul Clowes tallying his first professional goal, Gomez scoring the club’s first hat trick, Evan Lee with his first assist and Dom Boland earning two assists in one match.
In a previous interview, Paul Clowes stated that the team understood the task ahead of them with regards to Keegan’s injury. The young squad has certainly stepped up, and, with several other Triumph players knocking on the door, the only question to ask is, “Who’s Next?”
Playoff, First Round Breakdown: Following Tuesday’s match, the playoff picture doesn’t get simpler than this: We’re in. With the heart-stopping 3-2 victory in Tucson, the inaugural Triumph squad will push into the playoffs for a chance at a first-year championship.
Where things start to get sticky, and where the breakdown begins, is with the potential to host a first-round match at Legacy Early College. With 43 points, Greenville sits below Lansing Ignite in the league ranks (third and second respectively). However, if Greenville were to win against Orlando this Friday, the club has a chance at jumping Lansing for the No. 2 spot (meaning home-field advantage in the first round). Lansing does not play this week, but they will face fourth-seeded Forward Madison FC next Saturday the 5th at 3:00 PM. Assuming Triumph SC takes care of business vs OCB on the 27th, the results of the Lansing’s matchup will dictate the mission for Greenville before they take to the field in Statesboro on the final day of the regular season.
