Statesboro, GA – A gritty South Georgia performance doomed the Triumph to a 3-1 loss in the regular season finale, sending the third-seeded Triumph SC to Michigan next weekend for the first round of the USL League One playoffs.
Despite both clubs historically performing better in the second half, it was the first 45 minutes of action that wrote the story. Greenville struck first with a Cameron Saul – Carlos Gomez connection with Gomez burying his seventh goal of the season.
The 1-0 celebration was short, as Tormenta’s Jad Arsan would tally his first goal of the night on a loose rebound in the box. Arsan would net his second goal in similar fashion to put Tormenta up 2-1. Tormenta then put the game away, netting their third goal of the night on a ball over the backline that to a Connor Antley breakaway strike.
Despite the loss, the season is far from over for the Upstate side, as Greenville will join North Texas, Lansing and Madison to compete for the inaugural USL League One Championship. Greenville is Michigan-bound as they will tussle with No. 2 Lansing Ignite FC hosting the first round on October 12th at 7:00 PM. The match can be viewed on ESPN+.
