Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph SC have advanced to the USL League One Final with a 1-0 win on the road against Lansing Ignite FC.
It was a back and forth match early on as Greenville faced Lansing Ignite for the first round of the USL League One playoffs. Both teams had adequate chances throughout the first half, but were unable to convert.
The clubs went into the locker rooms tied at 0-0; however, Greenville showed that its defensive work can be turned into an offensive possibility as the Triumph midfielders dispossessed the Lansing attackers, sending a transitional moment forward to Omar Mohamed who smoothly found a wide open Carlos Gomez at the top of the 18 yard box. Gomez calmly played the ball towards the right flank, finding an onward running Christopher Bermudez who struck a driven ball, low to the back post, past the Lansing goalkeeper to give Greenville a 1-0 lead.
The goal for Greenville would prove to be enough as the Upstate club would hold its’ ground defensively, gaining another victorious clean sheet and claiming the first round of the inaugural USL League One Playoffs.
The Triumph will travel to Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas to take on North Texas SC on Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 pm for the USL League One Final.
