Greenville, SC – Triumph SC has exercised contract options for Carlos Gomez and Cole Seiler ahead of the 2020 season. The pair played key roles during the club’s inaugural year, with Gomez tallying Greenville’s first hat trick and Seiler being named an All-League First Team Defender.
“Cole has been invaluable on and off the field as a leader and quality player,” said John Harkes. “He’s so well known in the Upstate area, and we are excited to have him back with our club as community is vital to what we achieve. As one of our core players, he’s going to help instill the culture and level of expectation as we head into the second season. Not to mention, our defense was the best in the league last year and Cole was a big part in that.”
The Georgetown graduate and Anderson native started in all 28 appearances, logging 2,483 minutes played. Seiler’s role as part of the league’s best defense earned him multiple Team of the Week appearances (weeks 5, 8, 12, 14, 22) as well as him being one of three Triumph players to earn All-League First Team honors. The 25-year-old made his mark with 40 clearances, 25 interceptions, and a league-leading 113 aerial duels won.
“I’m really excited to be back with such a good group of guys and I’m looking forward to being back in the championship and bringing the trophy home to Greenville,” said Seiler.
Two-time Player of the Week and second-leading goal scorer for Greenville, Carlos Gomez, is expecting a big second year from the club as well.
“I cannot wait to be back with the guys on and off the field and continue building something special,” said Gomez. “Collectively, I want to win everything with these guys. And when I say everything, I mean every single game this season. We can do that with the right mentality and approach.”
The Spanish international appeared in 29 matches for Triumph SC, making 24 starts across 2,261 minutes played. Gomez’s three goals against FC Tucson on September 13 will go down in history as the club’s first-ever hat trick. His seven goals, six assists and 48 key passes earned him late-season recognition as he was named League One’s September/October Player of the Month.
“Carlos showed everyone how talented he is as a difference maker on the field. Creating and scoring goals in the second half of the season was key to our run to the finals. We’re excited to see him back in a Triumph kit to do more this year from the start,” said Coach Harkes about Gomez’s return.
Gomez and Seiler add to Greenville’s strong second year roster, joining last year’s co-captains Aaron Walker and Tyler Polak, Goalkeeper of the Year Dallas Jaye, and former Lansing captain Brandon Fricke among several others. View the full 2020 roster here.
