Greenville, SC – Greenville Triumph SC has exercised the 2020 option for midfielder Omar “Mojo” Mohamed and re-signed midfielder Max Hemmings, pending league and federation approval.
Mohamed, the 23-year-old former Portland Timbers 2 player, played a key role in the Triumph attack after returning from a preseason leg injury. Mohamed tallied one goal, two assists and 37 key passes across 1,851 minutes played in his 24 appearances. Mohamed’s success and eye-catching style of play earned him international recognition as well, earning his first call-up to the Somalia Men’s National Team during the 2019 season. Mohamed was recently called up for a second time, and is set to play with Somalia in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda next week.
“I’m excited and looking forward to being back in Greenville for next season. We have a strong core coming back from 2019 and we can only go up from where we finished,” said Mohamed.
Joining Mohamed is Max Hemmings, the 22 -year-old from England whose season was cut short by a knee injury on September 7th against Richmond. Hemmings joined Greenville following graduation from Georgia State University in Atlanta. He found himself in numerous roles on the field before finding a consistent starting role at right back. In his 15 appearances, Hemmings logged 1,154 minutes with 18 clearances and 9 interceptions.
Hemmings and Mohamed join veteran returners and co-captains Tyler Polak and Aaron Walker, newcomer Brandon Fricke and several other key players from the 2019 season. View the full 2020 roster here.
