Greenville, SC (February 22, 2020) – The Triumph fell 2-0 to the Charlotte Independence of the USL Championship at Bob Jones’ Alumni Stadium Saturday night. Though they created a number of chances against a strong Charlotte squad, they failed to find the back of the net while conceding a goal in both halves.
There were plenty of positives for Greenville, however, as many trialists saw action in a player rotation highlighted by the welcome sight of forward Jake Keegan’s return to action. Keegan was injured in the stretch run of the 2019 season against Madison, missing the final month of the regular season and the team’s run to the League One Final.
“You never want to go down an early goal like we did tonight,” said head coach John Harkes. “It was good to see our response after that though. We lifted our game and competed a little more. Second half of the game, we had chances and just didn’t capitalize. It was a great test for us early in preseason and credit to Mike (Jeffries) and his squad for playing so well.”
Greenville rounds out USL Championship preseason competition on Saturday, February 29th, against North Carolina FC in Cary, NC. The match will take place at 3:00 pm, and is open to fans. The club will play additional preseason matches against regional college teams ahead of their March 27th League One opener.
