Kissimmee, FL – The Greenville Triumph closed out their 15-week regular season with a dominating 4-1 win over Orlando City B Saturday afternoon. Alex Morrell had a hand in all four of Greenville’s goals scored, while a late header from OCB forward, Aleksandar Gluvacevic, kept the league-leading defense from tallying a 10th clean sheet.
The scoring started early and continued late as Alex Morrell opened things up for Greenville in the 11th minute with great ball movement at the top of the box between Tyler Polak and Noah Pilato, who found Lachlan McLean on the back side. The OCB goalkeeper, who logged his first professional start this afternoon, was unable to grab McLean’s short-range shot. Morrell was there for the cleanup and notched his fourth goal of the season.
Just 15 minutes later, Greenville struck again with the help of center back Evan Lee, who won the ball in the midfield and found a wide open Alex Morrell running down the right flank. Morrell’s left-footed strike took a deflection off of OCB defender, Owen Guske, into the back of the net but was ruled as his second goal of the game and fifth on the year.
The second half saw several substitutions for both sides, including Greenville’s Max Hemmings making his first appearance since recovering from an ACL injury during the 2019 season. Greenville continued to string together quality ball movement, and in the 58th minute, Lachlan McLean added another goal to his season tally off an assist from midfielder Paul Clowes.
Orlando played its best soccer through the last 20 minutes of the game and were able to get a goal back late into the half. The strong header from the 6’5″ forward, Gluvacevic, was tucked well passed the reach of an outstretched Dallas Jaye to put OCB in a two-goal deficit. Despite the momentum shift towards the home side afterwards, Greenville was the side to close out their four goal effort with rookie Andrew Booth netting his first professional goal late in the match.
The Upstate side has played the most dominating soccer in League One’s short history, sitting at the top of the table for the season’s entirety. On October 30th, Greenville will step onto their home pitch for a second chance at the League One title.
