Tampa, FL & Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club is set to make its debut on national television, with the club announced as the host of the USL League One’s first-ever match on national television as part of an expanded United Soccer League linear television schedule which features numerous USL matches on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes in 2021. The Sunday, May 16 matchup between last season’s top two teams, defending title-holder Greenville Triumph SC and Union Omaha, will air on ESPN2.
“This match is a tremendous opportunity for our club and for the region,” said Triumph Chief Brand Officer Doug Erwin. “The announcement speaks volumes to the growth of the United Soccer League, but also to the growth of the club and sport in Greenville and across the Upstate. We’re excited to represent League One and hope to put on a great show for a national audience.”
Greenville and Omaha were originally set to face off for the 2020 USL League One Title in late October before the match was cancelled due to COVID issues in the Omaha organization. Greenville was awarded the 2020 title after finishing the regular season with the most points, leading the standings for the entirety of the 2020 season.
The 2021 League One season kicks off on Saturday, April 10, with Fort Lauderdale CF hosting New England Revolution II on ESPN+. Triumph SC begins their title defense on April 24, as they travel to face a Richmond Kickers team that narrowly missed out on the title match in 2020. Greenville returns to the Upstate to face North Texas Soccer Club in a rematch of the 2019 USL League One Final on Saturday, May 1 at 7:00pm.
