Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club announced Friday that forward JJ Donnelly will miss the remainder of the 2021 season following a knee injury suffered on the training ground this week ahead of Sunday’s home match against FC Tucson.
Donnelly suffered a non-contact knee injury during Wednesday’s training session.
“It’s unfortunate and very disappointing that JJ picked up a season-ending injury,” said head coach John Harkes. “He was on such a high run recently. His enthusiasm, his positivity and his work rate up top gave us a big lift. We feel for him, and we’re going to use it as motivation to play and win matches for him.”
The forward originally joined Greenville in 2019 following time with Tormenta FC 2. Donnelly was the catalyst for Greenville’s recent run of form, scoring the opening goals in both of the club’s home wins in September.
Without Donnelly, Greenville will look to key their attack through a number of attacking players, including Marios Lomis. Though Lomis hasn’t played the last two matches, he’s still tied for the league lead in goals with 12 on the season.
“Marios knows the game and is a proven goal-scorer,” said Harkes. “He’s been able to see the game with a different perspective the last few weeks, but we’re looking for him to slot back in and step up on both ends of the ball this weekend and beyond.
