Tampa, FL – Greenville Triumph head coach John Harkes was named the USL League One Coach of the Month for October, the league announced Monday. Harkes guided the club to an undefeated month (4-0-1) during which the Triumph did not concede a goal. The October surge helped the Triumph shoot up the standings to the second seed and a first round bye in the League One Playoffs.
“This is not a coach of the month award,” said Harkes. “This is a collective award. Our staff and players have been fantastic during this run and I want to thank them all. The drive the guys have shown during this stretch has been tremendous, and I look forward to hopefully carrying this momentum into the playoffs.”
October was the second of a two-month unbeaten streak for the defending champions, as they conceded only four goals in nine matches while compiling a 6-0-3 record during the final quarter of the regular season. The high point of the run came on October 9th, when Greenville upset top-ranked Union Omaha on the road.
This is Harkes’ third Coach of the Month honor, having been previously recognized in July and September of 2020. Harkes ended the 2020 season being named Coach of the Year after the club’s title win. Harkes and the Triumph will host their first-ever home playoff match this Saturday, November 13th against the Chattanooga Red Wolves at 7:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased here.
