Burns, Wannemacher return to the Upstate as members of the Greenville Liberty
Greenville, SC (April 14, 2022) – The Greenville Liberty SC announced earlier today the signing of Upstate locals, Reagan Burns and Emmie Wannemacher, pending league and federation approval. Burns and Wannemacher, both play collegiately in the Carolinas and are returning home to complete for Greenville’s new women’s soccer team.
Burns is entering her junior season as midfielder at UNC Charlotte. During her first two seasons she garnered almost 1,100 minutes on the pitch, playing 25 matches and starting 14. Prior to her time as a 49er, Burns played at Riverside High School and for Carolina Elite Soccer Academy in their ECNL program. During her high school campaign, she served as team captain, helped guide the team to a conference championship in 2018-2019, and first place in the Viking Cup. In club soccer Burns was selected to the 2016 ENCL Player to Watch List, a member of the 2015 ODP Region III Team, attended the 2014 National Training Camp, and led the team to the 2017 and 2018 ECNL National Playoffs.
“Reagan is very versatile player and has the ability to play multiple defensive and midfield positions,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She has good soccer instincts and awareness of how to control tempo and speed of execution in moments of the game.”
Wannemacher just completed her first season as a member of the College of Charleston defense. As a freshman, she played 18 matches totaling 912 minutes. The Greenville Native graduated in 2021 from JL Mann High School and was named to the SC 5A All-State Team, invited to participate in the Clash of the Carolinas all-star event, and assisted the team to State Championship wins in 2018 and 2019. In addition to her high school career, Wannemacher also competed for CESA ENCL for club soccer.
“Emmie will bring the strong work ethic and technical platform we are looking for in our program’s style of play,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She has good instincts in her attacking ability using the width of the feild and has a tenacious defending mind set.”
Burns and Wannemacher are the 15th and 16th additions to an already impressive roster. The Greenville Liberty kicks off its inaugural season on May 8 with an exhibition match versus the SC Bantums from Columbia, SC. Women’s Season tickets are on sale now for the 2022 season.
