Abrams, Monteith and Baghdady grow the inaugural roster to 19
Greenville, SC (April 18, 2022) – Today the Greenville Liberty announced three more player signings to their inaugural roster. Pending league and federation approval, Anna Grace Abrams, Breckyn Monteith and Grace Baghdady are set to join the team this spring. They represent three different universities including Bob Jones, Appalachian State and Furman.
Abrams, a North Carolina Native first impressed at Greenville’s January tryouts earning a spot on the 2022 squad. The Bob Jones midfielder recorded 1,560 minutes, starting 21 out of 22 matches in her senior season. She tallied 14 goals and eight assists in 2021. Prior to her time at BJU, Abrams spent three seasons at Liberty University where she appeared in 21 matches. Before entering her college soccer career, she played club for North Carolina FC ECNL in Raleigh, N.C. Abrams plans on spending another season as a Bruin using her fifth year (COVID-19 year) of eligibility this fall.
“Anna Grace really impressed the staff at open tryouts. She presented her ability to distribute the ball with quality and play at the speed and tempo we were looking for,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She also showed a strong innate ability to read the game centrally at a high level, and a solid technical proficiency that would allow us to engage in the type of possession style to build in the midfield effectively.”
Monteith, a sophomore from App State, will also be adding to the Liberty’s offense this season. The forward scored 10 goals during her first season with the Mountaineers starting in all but one match last fall. Monteith transferred from Wake Forest University in 2021, after competing in 8 matches for the Demon Deacons. The North Carolina Native played club for Charlotte Soccer Academy and has been called up to the Northern Ireland National Team on multiple occasions.
“Breckyn can play in wide areas as a winger or an attacking outside back. She is a hardworking, physical player,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She can deliver and strike the ball well. She displays toughness and is a very opportunistic tenacious player in the 18-yard box. I am very excited to have her providing versatility in our attack.”
Baghdady is a Spartanburg local, finishing her final season at Furman University. The midfielder appeared in 65 matches, recorded 3 goals and 2 assists for the Paladins. She earned Southern Conference All-Freshman selection and earned SoCon Academic Honor Roll in 2018. Before collegiate play Baghdady was a member of the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy U18/U19 ECNL team and Oakbrook Prep in Spartanburg, S.C.
“Grace comes to the program with enthusiasm to continue her playing career after Furman. Grace will bring another hard working and tough player to the squad,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She has quality delivery out wide and will enable us to utilize a few formations that she can help incorporate transitional options outside.”
Abrams, Monteith and Baghdady will help build the offense for the newly formed team. The Greenville Liberty will host its’ first-ever match on Sunday, May 8th in a scrimmage against the SC Bantums at 3:00 pm. Women’s tickets are on sale now for the 2022 season as well as select merchandise.
