WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club plays its second away match of the season tomorrow, May 7th, in Fresno, CA at 10:30pm ET against Fuego FC.
Coming off its first win of the season with a big 1-0 win over Chattanooga, Greenville seems reenergized by those three points. The three-time League finalists are 1-2-1 for the 2022 season and hungry to add a second match to the win column. The team is tied for second place in League One in shots at 51, but currently has the lowest goals scored at two. With no shortage of opportunities, Greenville hopes to unlock another level of goal-scoring in this upcoming match.
Saturday’s match will test the Greenville squad away for only the second time this season. Traveling across three time zones and playing a fresh-faced, Fuego FC in their Inaugural Home Opener will be a new experience even for Greenville’s veteran players. Fortunately, Greenville has had a full week of preparation for the first time since the lead-up to the season opener, enabling players like Lucas Coutinho to return from injury and veterans, like Don Smart, to rest up following an April that saw the club play five matches.
Central Valley Fuego FC sits at 5th in league standings with a 2-1-1 record. The California-based club shut out Greenville 2-0 in their first match of the season, drew a high-scoring match against Charlotte Independence 3-3, and fell to last year’s League One champions, Union Omaha, 3-0 this season. Last weekend, Fuego earned their second win, a 1-0 victory against Forward Madison, after sneaking a goal in on a goalkeeper error at the 53rd minute.
