WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club returns home following two consecutive road matches to host the Charlotte Independence for its first-ever USL League One regular season match this Saturday, June 4th at 7:00 pm, presented by Stretch Zone.
While away, Greenville recorded a loss to NCFC and a win over Chattanooga, bringing the club to a 3-3-2 record this season. This weekend, the squad will face the current league-leaders for League One and look to advance upward in the standings. Despite their victory over the Red Wolves, Greenville still remains seventh in league standings, below the line for playoffs. A win over Charlotte has the potential to send the home side above the cutoff line to fifth or sixth spot as the season nears the summer stretch.
Promising news for Greenville came in the 1-0 victory at Chattanooga, as former all-league midfielder Noah Pilato made his 2022 debut, returning to the pitch last Saturday during the final minutes of the match. Greenville may also see the comeback of Nico Brown this weekend, as he appeared on the Triumph bench last match.
The Charlotte Independence currently sits at the top of the table for League One in their first year of play, following their departure from the Championship League. Despite the delta in the standings, Charlotte is only 3 points ahead of Greenville, with a 4-2-2 record. A tight race in the league makes every match critical, as was seen last season with a playoff races coming down to the final match of the regular season. NCFC and Fuego FC are fast seconds with 13 points each, and the Kickers, Red Wolves, Tormenta FC and Triumph all dangerous competitors with 13 points each. Fortunately for the North Carolina club, they will have fresh legs this Saturday as they come back from a bye week over the Memorial Day holiday.
