Goals by Keegan, Labovitz push Triumph ahead in rematch of 2021 USL League One Final
Papillion, NE (June 18, 2022) – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club showed no Omaha hangover from their loss in the 2021 USL League One Final, shutting out Union Omaha in Greenville’s first match in Werner Park since last October’s championship loss. Goals from both Triumph strikers, Jacob Labovitz and Jake Keegan, paved the way for the Triumph in the victory.
The match began under brutal conditions for both sides, with a heat index of 103 degrees, it seemed like the side with the best conditioning would come out on top. Both teams eased in to the match, struggling to maintain possession and string passes and attacks together. Save for a few corner kicks by each side, the first 40 minutes of the match provided little action. That turned just before the halftime whistle, though, when Triumph forward Jacob Labovitz took the ball on the left flank and dribbled into the box. Labovitz weaved through the defense of the defending USL League One champions, drilling a shot with his left foot and putting Greenville up at the break as he scored his fourth goal in four matches.
Greenville came out of the half keen to add to the lead. With striker Jake Keegan subbed on out of the locker room, the Triumph didn’t waste any time. In the 56th minute, Lucas Coutinho floated a precise lob to Keegan, who connected in the box to double Greenville’s lead. Greenville’s defense kicked in to high gear with the 2-0 lead, with the back line and goalkeeper Paul Christensen snuffing out Omaha’s looks at goal. Though Greenville only had two shots on goal, they made them count wile Omaha’s three shots on goal came up empty.
Greenville’s win sent them back to the to the top of the table as they prepare to return to the Upstate for back-to-back matches. The Triumph hosts Northern Colorado in the expansion side’s first trip to Greenville next Saturday, June 25th at 7:00 PM.
