Greenville loses second straight weather-delayed match
Chattanooga, TN- Greenville’s offense faltered in the final third, and the Triumph defense showed holes as the club dropped to second in league standings after falling to Chattanooga 5-1. The road loss for Greenville was the club’s second straight loss, with both matches impacted by weather.
Another evening match turned to a late-night loss on Saturday after a two-hour weather delay postponed the start of the Greenville Triumph and Chattanooga Red Wolves match. Finally able to step onto the pitch at CHI Memorial Stadium, Chattanooga kicked off with a vengeance after losing to Greenville earlier in the season. Three minutes into the match, the Red Wolves sent a rocket past Greenville keeper, Paul Christensen to make it 1-0. Minutes later, an unmarked Jimmie Villalobos easily slotted the ball into the net to double the lead for Chattanooga. In the sixteenth minute, a Greenville Triumph corner forced an own goal from the Red Wolves to make it 2-1. The half concluded and both squads leaving the pitch with the score untouched.
Greenville entered the second half with the same momentum they ended the first half with, but the visitors failed to earn an equalizer. Greenville’s night seemed to end early, as Chattanooga converted in the 70th minute when a second unmarked Red Wolf sealed the match for the home team. The third goal for Chattanooga sent Greenville spiraling and shifted the energy in favor of the home side. In the final minutes Greenville conceded a fourth and a fifth goal before ending the night 1-5 against Chattanooga.
