WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club will host its only September match tomorrow against Forward Madison. The night will feature special recognitions for cancer survivors, a pink giveaway t-shirt, pink stadium accents, and fundraising options for fans to donate to!
This home matches comes just a week after Greenville’s 2-0 loss to Northern Colorado, an unfortunate outcome that dropped the team to second in League standings behind Richmond based on point differential. Greenville will look to regain its form this week with a handful of players returning from injury and Venton Evans back from international duty. Having additional numbers on the offense and defense will benefit the home side as they face a Forward Madison club coming off a tough midweek loss to Union Omaha. The last time these teams met, Greenville felt the pressure at Breese Stevens Field, falling 3-2 to the flamingos. Now on their own turf, the Triumph are eager to redeem themselves in front of a home crowd.
Hovering just above the cutoff mark for playoffs, Forward Madison will be itching for a win this Saturday in the hopes to secure their position among the top six teams. A single point currently separates Madison from Charlotte and Central Valley Fuego and two points from Hailstorm. A loss for Madison on Saturday could potentially threaten their playoff expectations, while solidifying Greenville as a top contender for one of two first-round byes. A short recovery time and two big road matches could have a big impact on this Wisconsin team as they fight to stay in the top percentage against a Triumph team keen to bounce back from a disappointing home loss last week.
