Luque, Restrepo & Monczewski Join Triumph Staff Ahead of 2023 Season
Greenville, SC (February 28, 2023) – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has announced three additions to the club’s technical staff ahead of the start of the club’s fifth season. Nico Luque will join as the Head Assistant Coach, Santiago Restrepo will serve as goalkeeping coach and Chris Monczewski will take on the role of manager of soccer operations, the club announced today. Luque and Restrepo round out the coaching staff following the offseason departure of assistant coach Alex Blackburn.
Previously a volunteer coach and video analyst for the Club, Luque officially joins the Triumph staff in the role of Head Assistant Coach. Luque has over eight years of coaching experience at the collegiate level with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, USC Upstate and Concordia University Nebraska. A graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, he began his coaching career with the Crusaders and played a major role in capturing the program’s first NCCAA National Championship. Luque also expanded to the NPSL as an assistant coach for the Upward Stars in Spartanburg, SC.
Restrepo will join the Greenville technical staff this season as goalkeeping coach. Restrepo is well-known among the Club as a former training player for the Triumph and the Greenville Liberty assistant goalkeeping coach. He is well-versed in the Upstate Youth soccer environment as a former director of goalkeeping and club coach. Like Luque, Restrepo has also coached on the collegiate side for USC Upstate as the men’s assistant coach. A former collegiate and pro player, Restrepo recorded roster marks for A.F.C. Roatan (Honduras 2nd Division), Kaw Valley F.C. (USL League Two) and NPSL teams Lansing United and Upward Stars.
“I’m extremely excited to welcome Nico and Santi to the staff,” said head coach and sporting director John Harkes. “Both bring great experience and know the values and culture of our club having spent time around the team previously. I look forward to the knowledge and perspective they will bring as we enter our fifth season!”
In addition to Luque & Restrepo on the coaching side, Chris Monczewski will serve as the Manager of Soccer Operations for the team. Monczewski has spent the past two seasons with Greenville on the training squad while completing his college career as a goalkeeper at Bob Jones University, helping the Bruins capture two NCCAA National Championships. Prior to completing his graduate studies, Monczewski interned with Knights Performance Factory, and served on the match day staff for both the Triumph and Liberty.
