WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club will kick off 30 minutes later than its usual start time for Wednesday’s match against Fuego FC. Still searching for its first win of the season, Greenville will host the Californian side following three weeks on the road.
Last weekend, Greenville suffered a tough 4-1 loss against Forward Madison. Now three matches into the season without a point, the Triumph will hope a return to its home stadium can spark the team to its first victory. Despite a slow start to the season, though, Greenville found a bright spot in Noah Pilato’s goal on Saturday night. The midfielder turned his defender and curled the ball into the upper 90 for Greenville’s first goal of 2023 and a highlight moment for Pilato as he looks to return to top fitness.
Greenville’s injury-depleted roster may once again impact Wednesday’s match with a quick turn-around from last weekend. Though Daniel Wu competed for most of the match, he was injured against Madison and has been ruled out for tomorrow’s match. With many other defenders still out with injuries and six of Greenville’s starting eleven recording 90-plus minutes Saturday, the upcoming two-match week may test its reserves.
Only one position ahead of Greenville in the standings, Fuego FC holds a win, loss, and draw this season- mimicking the 2022 record between Greenville and Fuego. Fuego will travel east again, one week after a 1-1 draw against expansion side, One Knox. Central Valley started the season strong, traveling to Chattanooga and coming out with a 1-0 win, but dropped to Union Omaha the following week 2-0. Championship side, Monterey Bay also defeated Fuego in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup 3-1.
