2022 Hometown Hero Recipient Sgt. Jonathan Bastoni Recaps Experience
Greenville, SC (May 10th, 2023)- The Greenville Triumph and Joe Roberson & Son Roofing have partnered together for a second season to spotlight heroes of the Upstate. Hometown Heroes honors deserving first responders, such as firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and frontline healthcare workers, and the work they have done in and for their communities.
To preface the 2023 Hometown Hero announcements, we will be talking with previous recipients about their experience in being named a hero. Next up for our question-and-answer session is Sgt. Jonathan Bastoni of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Q: Why did you choose to go into your line of work?
A: When I applied to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, I had had several different jobs but I was looking for a career. There was much I didn’t know then but I have learned how exciting and rewarding it is to work in law enforcement and I have had the opportunity to work in multiple areas, such as narcotics enforcement, uniform patrol, and as a Human Trafficking Investigator. Each of these positions has allowed me to make a real impact on my community.
Q: What does it mean to you to have been chosen/named as a Hometown Hero?
A: The purpose of law enforcement is to serve and protect the community. Often law enforcement officers do that without recognition or appreciation. While that is not why we do the job we do, it is gratifying to be recognized as having made a real difference in the community you work for.
Q: What was the highlight of your experience being named/ being recognized as a Hometown Hero?
A: The whole experience of being on the field and having the crowd show their appreciation was very moving.
Q: Lastly, we want to know how you spend your time out of work! So, if you won an all-expense paid trip, where would you go?
A: I have always wanted to travel to Alaska and have come close several times. The idea of seeing the diversity of that stated and still be in the US is appealing.
