WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Triumph will travel to the west coast for the first time this year when they face Fuego FC Saturday night. The two teams last met on April 19th, with Greenville securing three points at home. On the road in Fresno, Greenville will hope to snap its five-match winless streak for another win over the Californian side.
Last weekend, Greenville battled Union Omaha to a 1-1 draw. Greenville entered the match with limited depth due to injuries and the absence of Devin Boyce and relinquished an early goal to Omaha. In the final minutes of stoppage time in the first half, a goal from Lyam MacKinnon leveled the playing field for Greenville until the end of the match as the club earned its third consecutive draw.
After a series of matches with low personnel, Greenville welcomes back Lucas Coutinho, Aaron Walker and Noah Franke back in rotation for Saturday. The Triumph has had no shortage of goals in the past 10 matches outscoring their opponents by two. However defense and discipline will be key if they hope to earn all three points and a clean sheet. Greenville will specifically look to avoid conceding a goal in the early minutes of the match, as head coach John Harkes stressed following the club’s draw against Omaha.
Both Greenville and Fuego are short of the playoff cut line in the current league table. Fuego sits at the bottom of the league table with a 3-7-1 record, while Greenville hovers at eighth with a 3-5-4 record. Despite their inconsistency, Fuego has tallied wins against some top-table teams including current leader, North Carolina FC. A long day of travel and three-hour time difference will require great focus from the South Carolina side as they head into the match looking to earn road points.
