Late night for Triumph ends in scoreless draw at NOCO
Windsor, CO (August 19, 2023) – The Greenville Triumph drew Northern Colorado 0-0 after battling through two weather delays on Saturday night in Greeley, CO. Greenville retained its sixth seed after tonight’s draw and moved to 9-7-6 on the season.
The Greenville Triumph versus Northern Colorado Hailstorm match was a night of intense action and close calls. After a one-hour lightning delay, the match began at 10:10 PM ET. In the 18th minute, Greenville’s Lucas Coutinho struck the post with a powerful shot, setting the tone for a game of near-misses. Both teams fought for possession, and in the 42nd minute, Northern Colorado’s Trevor Amann seemed destined to score, but Greenville’s Jamie Smith made a stunning diving block to keep the score 0-0.
An extended halftime due to another lightning delay, lead the teams into the final 45’. Despite efforts from both sides, including an offside-disallowed goal for Greenville in the 65th minute, the match concluded without any goals. The match ended in a deadlock, 0-0, a testament to the strong defenses and missed opportunities that defined the night.
Greenville will return home next Wednesday, August 23rd to play the Chattanooga Red Wolves in Paladin Stadium at 7:30 PM. Later next week, the Triumph will host Union Omaha on Saturday for a 7:00 PM match.
