Castro collects Player of the Week with Lee, MacKinnon, Scarlett & Shultz on TOTW
Greenville, SC (March 12, 2024)- After a spectacular offensive showing in its Home Opener, Greenville lists Leo Castro as League One Player of the Week and Evan Lee, Lyam MacKinnon and Zion Scarlett on Team of the Week. Rick Wright was also voted Coach of the Week to start the 2024 season.
As a new component of the League’s weekly awards, Rick Wright has been named Coach of the Week. Wright clinched his first win as Head Coach with a succinct 3-1 victory over Spokane Velocity FC.
The 2023 leading goal scorer is back in business for the 2024 season; Leo Castro recorded a three point game Saturday night with a goal and assist in the second half. Castro’s first point came when he smashed a shot at Spokane goalkeeper, Carlos Merancio, and it was blocked back to Evan Lee. Greenville’s final goal came from Castro’s infamous back-heel shot to seal the match.
Defender now turned midfielder, Evan Lee, notched his first goal since 2022. Not only did Lee clean up the rebound to put Greenville on top, but also helped create the play with the pass to Zion Scarlett.
Lyam MacKinnon‘s effort led to Castro’s goal in the 60th minute. The second-year striker crossed the ball for a cheeky finish.
Zion Scarlett quickly made a name for himself after scoring his first professional goal in his Greenville debut. At 19 years old, Scarlett’s goal makes him the youngest player to ever score in a Triumph jersey. His goal also served as a key equalizer for Greenville as they entered the half 1-1 versus Spokane.
Nate Shultz represented the Triumph defense on TOTW and earned an assist with a long-range header to Scarlett. Shultz was both a threat on offense and defense recording four tackles and five clearances.
The Greenville Triumph will be back in action on March 20th for the U.S. Open Cup versus the SC United Bantums in Columbia. Then, Greenville returns home to face Forward Madison on March 23rd at 7:00 PM. Purchase tickets here!
