Dave Dixon to depart as head coach; Joel Tyson named interim head coach for remainder of 2026 season
Greenville, S.C. (September 9th, 2026) – Greenville Triumph SC announced today that Dave Dixon will depart his role as head coach, effective immediately. Assistant Coach Joel Tyson will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Dixon joined the Triumph ahead of the 2026 campaign as the third head coach in club history, taking over following the retirement of Rick Wright. His first season in Greenville marked an important period of transition for the club, including the move into its new home at GE Vernova Park.
Under his leadership, the Triumph earned the first win in GE Vernova Park history, defeating Forward Madison FC 1-0 in front of a sold-out crowd on June 3. Greenville also recorded a pair of four-goal performances during the season, including a 4-2 victory over Westchester SC and a 4-0 shutout of FC Naples.
Dixon brought nearly three decades of coaching experience to Greenville, including previous stops in USL Championship with Indy Eleven, USL League One and a national championship during his time with the Charlotte Eagles. He also played an important role in the development of a young Triumph roster during his first season with the club.

Assistant Coach Joel Tyson will assume interim head coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the 2026 season.
A familiar face within the Triumph technical staff, Tyson joined Greenville ahead of the 2026 season. Prior to joining Greenville, Tyson spent seven seasons as the head coach of Wofford College. During his tenure, he led the Terriers to multiple successful seasons and was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2023. Tyson most recently served as an associate head coach at NC State, where he helped the Wolfpack reach the NCAA College Cup Final in 2025. He also gained professional experience with Charlotte Independence, helping the club reach the USL League One playoffs.
“As we look to the remainder of the season, our focus is on viewing every game as an opportunity to improve our form and record with effort that resonates with our fans. Our aim continues to be to win games and create positive outcomes for the community. Joel is a great motivator with a proven ability to bring people together and I have full confidence in his leadership as we compete to move up the table,” said Prince.
Tyson will lead the Triumph beginning with the club’s upcoming match against Fort Wayne FC on September 12 at GE Vernova Park.
