Greenville held scoreless as Corpus Christi finds early winner at GE Vernova Park
Greenville, S.C. (September 16, 2026) – Greenville Triumph SC hosted an early 11 a.m. kickoff against Corpus Christi FC on Wednesday at GE Vernova Park for STEM Day, presented by AFL. More than 4,000 students from 31 schools across the Upstate attended the match as part of the educational field trip.The Triumph fell 1-0 after Corpus Christi found the back of the net in the 35th minute.
The Triumph controlled 54% of possession and recorded nine shots while creating opportunities throughout the match. Greenville entered halftime trailing 1-0 and continued to search for an equalizer in the second half.
The second half saw Greenville continue to search for the breakthrough. Azaad Liadi, Muba Nour and Louis Herrera led the attack as the Triumph worked to create openings against the Corpus Christi defense.
The match became increasingly physical, with nearly 50 fouls combined between the two sides and two red cards issued. Despite the physical play, Greenville continued to push forward in search of an equalizer but could not find the breakthrough, as Corpus Christi held on for the 1-0 victory.
With the result, Greenville moves to 6-13-5 on the 2026 USL League One season. The Triumph will now turn their attention to their next match on Saturday, September 19, when they travel to face Sarasota Paradise on the road.
