Larsen scores late as Greenville battles to the final whistle
Chattanooga, TN. (September 5, 2026) – Greenville Triumph SC fell 3-1 to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday night at CHI Memorial Stadium. The match marked the second meeting between the two sides this season, with Chattanooga earning a 2-1 victory in the first matchup.
Chattanooga opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Michael Knapp found the back of the net to give the Red Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Red Wolves doubled their advantage in second-half stoppage time when Pedro Hernandez scored, sending Chattanooga into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.
Greenville made two changes at halftime as the Triumph looked to close the gap and create more opportunities in the attacking third.
In the 67th minute, Brigham Larsen entered the match for his first appearance since July 4. Larsen helped provide an attacking spark as Greenville continued to search for a way back into the match.
Chattanooga extended its lead in the 85th minute when Tobi Adewole scored to make it 3-0.
The Triumph continued to fight through the final minutes and found a breakthrough in stoppage time. Larsen scored in the second minute of added time, recording his first professional goal.
“Super grateful to be able to, first of all, be healthy again, and also thankful just to help the team,” said Larsen. “Disappointed with the result, but we’ll go again.”
Despite the late push, Chattanooga held on for the 3-1 victory.
Looking ahead, Larsen emphasized the importance of preparation and staying focused on what the team can control.
“It starts with preparation, taking care of myself, and competing in training,” said Larsen. “Also, just being able to stay in the present and focus on what I can control. We as a group have a lot of important games coming up that we know we have to get results in, but all we can do is focus on how we can improve and not think too much about external factors.”
The Triumph now turn their attention to a return home, where they will look to get back into the win column in front of their supporters.
“We need three points, so it will be great to get back in front of our home crowd and feed off their energy,” said Head Coach Dave Dixon.
Greenville will host Fort Wayne FC on Saturday, September 12, at GE Vernova Park as part of Somos Upstate Night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Dixon knows the Triumph will have another challenge ahead but is focused on preparing the group throughout the week.
“Fort Wayne is a quality group,” said Dixon. “We need to focus on getting the group to play forward and make them defend in their box. We will put our heads down and grind this week to make sure that we are ready to compete.”
