Mogadishu, Somalia – Triumph SC midfielder Omar Mohamed has been selected as the International Player of the Year by the Somali Football Federation at a banquet celebrating the team’s 2019 season of international competition.
Mohamed earned two international call-ups for Somalia this year, first appearing on The Ocean Stars’ roster in September to participate in two World Cup Qualifying matches. His international season was highlighted by a world class, half-volley finish against Burundi during the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup as well as a breakaway goal in Somalia’s World Cup Qualifying game against Zimbabwe in September.
“It means a lot to me and my family to receive this international recognition. I’m just blessed and thankful for this prestigious award,” said Mohamed.
Set to return to Greenville for the 2020 season, the speedy midfielder appeared in 24 games last year with the Triumph, logging 1,851 total minutes with one goal and two assists.
